Windows play a vital role when it comes to enhancing your home.
Put on curtains, blinds or drapes, it instantly changes the entire look of your living space.
Blinds are mostly used in commercial spaces. However, people also opt for blinds in residential buildings for a classy look. Horizontal, vertical, roller, roman and bamboo are five types of blinds available in the market. As per utility and space, these blinds can be selected for windows.
“ Blinds are the first choice for commercial space, be it offices, embassies, hotels, schools or colleges. For residential buildings, blinds need to be chosen with care,” said Interior Designer Sushovit Ranjitkar at Red Paper Designers. Citing that blinds are easy to handle, he said, “ As blinds come with pull and push system, it is easy to use and it makes the space look bigger.” According to Ranjitkar, vertical and roller blinds are popular for commercial purposes.
Stating that it is crucial to consult with interior designers, he said, “ Many times people choose blinds on their own ending up with unmatched system and fabric making the space look bad.” He suggests considering colours of wall, furniture, upholstery before choosing fabric for any space.
He further said, “ For dark rooms, light colour blinds give a brighter look while for bright rooms, dark colour blinds are suitable.” Moreover, he said that if the window sill is low in residential building, blinds look attractive but if not, he suggests opting for curtains.
The market has with various system and fabrics. However, handling with care will elongate the life of the blinds. “ Any blind can’t suit every window. Blinds need to be used wisely according to its types,” said Ashok Sarawagi, Managing Director at New Madan Furnishers.
According to him, vertical blinds and roller blinds are preferred for offical places while horizontal and roman are mostly used in residential houses, apartments and restaurants.
At the store, the price of horizontal blinds start from Rs 150 to Rs 225 per sq ft while roman blinds cost from Rs 225 to Rs 350 per sq ft. It costs Rs 125 to Rs 175 per sq ft for vertical blinds and roller blinds cost Rs 190 to Rs 250 per sq ft. Bamboo blinds are priced between Rs 225 to Rs 300 per sq ft. Citing that the business of blinds and curtains has declined by 50 per cent, Sarawagi said, “ Due to the last year’s earthquake and blockade, the whole real estate market became sluggish. Many apartment projects were halted which were potential customers for blinds and curtains.” Echoing him, Radha Pathak, Senior Sales at Prime Furnishing Interior, said, “ Like all other businesses, the earthquake has affected our business too. The demand for blinds and curtains this year has decreased.” According to her, economic turmoil during blockade has also affected the furnishing business. Pathak informed that they import roller and horizontal blinds from China whereas vertical blinds are imported from Taiwan. Roman blinds best suit drawing and living areas while roller blinds are used for bathroom and kitchen.
