131 Land Revenue Offices start online service

Due to the hassles being faced by service seekers at the Land Revenue Offices the government has started online land registration system in 131 Land Revenue Offices (LROs) across the nation. Most people had been complaining about the prevalence of middlemen in the LROs who would often seek hefty amounts for various works at the offices.

“We have directed all the Land Revenue Offices throughout the country to start the online land registration system mandatorily as there have been huge numbers of complaints related to corruption in recent days,” said Gopi Krishna Mainali, secretary of Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

According to Mainali, the government will soon implement online land registration system across the country as per the demand of the public. “At present, government is facing staff crunch to manage online system in all the offices.”


As per the Department of Land Reform and Management, Chabahil, Kalanki, Manamaiju and Tokha offices in the Valley have already implemented the online land registration system. Likewise, Land Revenue Offices in Bharatpur, Chanauli and Madi of Chitwan; Pokhara and Lekhanath of Kaski; Hetauda of Makawanpur; Rangeli and Belbari of Morang; Bhadrapur and Damak of Jhapa; Dharan and Inaruwa of Sunsari; Waling of Syangja; Parasi and Kawasoti of Nawalparasi; and Simara of Bara, among others, have already started providing online land registration services.

Moreover, LROs in Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Banke and 15 other districts have also adopted the online land registration system.


“Nowadays, many land revenue staffers are facing corruption charges and every week some of them are being nabbed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority,” stated Mainali, adding that this is the reason why the LROs are understaffed by nearly 40 per cent at present and the online system cannot be implemented in all the Land Revenue Offices.

According to him, service seekers have been facing a hard time owing to insufficient staffers in every office. Due to the fear of corruption charge, very few civil servants want to be assigned to the Land Revenue Offices. Daily activities have been affected in various offices due to lack of staff. In some districts, the situation is such that a single staff has to look after two to three departments due to lack of manpower, said Mainali.
