The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will now be monitoring the under construction buildings with more frequency in order to contain the growing trend of violation of the building code and approved map.
KMC’s engineer, Ram Thapa, said that the engineers had been instructed to visit the construction site every day as the builders were found to be getting their map approvals at the KMC and not complying with the map during construction.
Thapa added that the KMC was launching the campaign in view of the constructions taking place against the map approval and the trend of adding more storeys illegally.
The KMC is backtracking on its usual habit of carrying out an inspection only after the completion of the construction. Now the metropolis will deploy engineers to keep its eye throughout the construction period.
“Until now KMC’s engineers had been carrying out inspections at the sites where there had been complaints,” Thapa shared and added, “Now the KMC’s engineers would head to every under construction houses for inspection.”
It is estimated that around 80 per cent of the houses in the Kathmandu Valley are built in violation of their approved maps.
Around 10 houses are built every day in KMC.
