At least 12 aftershocks, minor to light, were recorded in three hours after the local magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit Bajhang district of far-western Nepal on Wednesday afternoon.

Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported that the frequent temblors pushed the locals out of their residence in the district.

But no casualty or loss of property has been reported till this evening.

Earthquakes in far-western Nepal, epicentre in Bajhang

National Seismological Centre recorded a fresh moderate earthquake, followed by at least two significant aftershocks within 30 minutes, in Bajhang district of far-western Nepal on Wednesday afternoon.

The earthquake recorded at 2:55 this afternoon was of local magnitude 5.0.

The second and third events, recorded at 3:11 pm and 3:28 pm, were of local magnitude 4.2 and 3.8 respectively, according to the NSC.

The epicentres of the seismic events lie close to Seti waterfall. The location is between Bhatekhola and Dhamena, north-east of the district headquarters Chainpur.

Quoting DSP Narendra Chand, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported that no casualty and damage of property was reported immediately.

The latest earthquake and its aftershocks are not related to the 2015 Nepal earthquake sequence as Bajhang lies in different fault line, very far from the epicentres of last year’s devastating April 25 and May 15 tremors.
