The third edition of the NLHDA Kantipur Real Estate Expo kicked off at Exhibition Hall in Bhrikuti Mandap on Thursday. Organised by the Nepal Land and Housing Developers’ Association (NLHDA) and Kantipur Publications, the real estate property extravaganza was inaugurated by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Chhabi Raj Panta.

The four-day expo is expected to help potential buyers by providing them an opportunity to meet directly with developers and enable them to acquire in-depth information about the properties on offer. Likewise, the annual NLHDA event, which has been running for the past three years, is also expected to give a boost to the country’s overall real estate sector. Kantipur Publications has partnered in the event for the first time.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Panta expressed his happiness at the holding of such an event when the real estate sector is struggling to bounce back. “Expos will spread a positive message about the overall realty sector. I am sure these kinds of initiatives will help the overall industry to solve problems existing in the sector and move ahead smoothly,” said Panta. He added that the government was positive about developing planned urbanization and was ready to cooperate with the private sector in this regard.

Likewise, Om Rajbhandary, coordinator of the expo, said that visitors would be able to buy properties at “unbelievable prices” during the expo period. “For those wishing to purchase realty, this is the best time,” he said. He added that the major agenda of the expo was to boost the overall real estate industry by reviving customer confidence, and the indications so far had been very positive. “Since the government has released the adjusted budget, cash flow in the market is pretty good. Hopefully, this will help people to buy their dream home,” Rajbhandary said. There are 16 realty property developers participating in the expo. They are offering attractive discounts, products and special arrangements for those buying or booking properties during the event.

Likewise, there is an arrangement for site visits during the event for interested visitors. The organizers have arranged transportation from the expo venue itself.

“The shuttle transportation service will take potential buyers to their desired property locations so that they can get actual information about the progress of the project concerned,” said Min Man Shrestha, general secretary of the NLHDA.

Another highlight of the event is Property Clinic where experts from various sectors like engineers, designers, lawyers and financial advisors, among others, will answer queries of visitors regarding various aspects of the realty sector.

The stalls of the 16 realty developers are complemented by stalls of companies dealing in furniture and furnishing, electronic goods, glass, iron, pipes, paints, carpets, sanitary ware and automobiles, among others. There is also a food court and free Wi-Fi service.

Moreover, the organizers have declared a bumper prize of an apartment worth Rs 2.1 million at Mero City Apartment for one lucky visitor who will be selected through a lucky draw. Daily gift hampers worth Rs 500,000 have been offered as daily door prizes. Tickets for the four-day event have been priced at Rs 50.

Om Rajbhandary: Prospective buyers will be given special treatment
Coordinator, NLHDA Kantipur Real-Estate Expo 2013
What makes this year’s expo different from previous editions is the various new initiatives being introduced this year. The most interesting initiative this year is Property Tour. The country’s realty market has been down for the past four years. During this period, many projects have developed a lot. People might have seen them in photographs only. Like they say, “seeing is believing”, and we have arranged transportation service for serious customers to see the projects. To identify prospective customers, we have collected a list of potential customers from all the developers. An invitation with a special tag to be displayed while visiting the expo has been sent to them. This will let developers identify prospective buyers, and they will be given special treatment. Similarly, Property Clinic is another interesting feature of this expo where people can get full information regarding the real estate sector. The real estate sector in Nepal is at an initial stage. Hence, we have called for an interaction programme to discuss the policies the government should adopt in making our city organised. Every exhibitor has offered something special. Since this is an initiative to end the confidence crisis among possible buyers, there will be transparency in prices. Financially, all the exhibitors are facing difficulties. But we want to cash in on the favourable environment when the possibility of cash flow in the market is high.

Min Man Shrestha, General Secretary, NLHDA:We aim to restore confidence in the realty sectorMin Man Shrestha
The country’s real estate market has been on the rebound after a huge crash in 2009. Transactions in budget apartments, houses and land are being carried out briskly. With this expo, we aim to make this sector more vibrant. The need of the hour is to bring back confidence among buyers and hence this expo can create awareness among the people and also bring back that lost confidence. Apart from this, we also want to promote apartments as a necessity of tomorrow during the expo. Most of the developed countries in the world have already accepted the concept of apartments. Since we have limited land space, apartments can help us save land and also promote organised urbanization. We want to draw the attention of the concerned government authorities as well. There is a need for change in several policies to make the concept of apartments a hit in Nepal. Real estate as an industry has a huge contribution to the national economy. Currently, there is an investment of around Rs 200 billion in this sector. This sector has direct and indirect relationships with over 200 industries. Also, the sector has offered employment opportunities to thousands of Nepalis. Hence, this expo is also likely to highlight the importance of the real estate business.
