Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has expressed commitment to build 1,000 homes in different quake-hit areas.
The association said it will construct earthquake-resistant and environment-friendly homes in eight affected districts with an investment of around Rs 350 million.
NRNA President Shesh Ghale said the association had started collecting relief funds within an hour of the earthquake of April 25.
Issuing a statement, NRNA said it has formed a committee to study to finalize the modality of construction and select needy areas. The statement said the committee will hold discussion with engineers, experts and government officials and submit a report based on which the process of constructing homes will begin.
"We will give priority to low income and poor families in the affected areas. We will construct home in such a way that it reflects and promotes local culture," Ghale said in the statement, adding that the homes will be of permanent nature.
