Tenants of Dhapasi-based Park View Horizon, which has suffered serious damage due to earthquake, on Monday appealed to the government and developer of the housing apartment to do the needful so that they get their hard-earned money back. The high-rise buildings developed by Indian company Varun Developers was labeled 'unsafe' by the government after the earthquake on April 25 damaged its buildings.

Park View Horizon has 213 apartments in five seventeen-storied buildings. Though it has sold 143 apartments so far, around 100 of them are currently inhabited. After the earthquake, the tenants are living in their relatives' house. As Park View Horizon has been termed 'unsafe', they fear their hard-earned money is at risk.

Speaking with Republica, Dan Bahadur Budhathoki, chairman of Park View Horizon Development Committee (PVHDC), said the developer of Park View Horizon has gone out of contact. "All of us have become homeless. Our investment along with our belongings in the building is at risk," Budhathoki said, adding, "We don't have access to the Indian developer and we don't know their local representative in Nepal."

Budhathoki said though the developer has vowed to meet with the tenants to address their woes, it was not taking any concrete step.

Saying that their daily life is affected and that huge investment is at risk, the tenant say the developer should provide them immediate relief and assure them that they will get their investment back.

Park View Horizon is one of the luxurious apartment complexes in the country. Price of apartment units in Park View Horizon start from Rs 10 million and go as high as Rs 3 million per unit.

Shashi Sharma, another tenant of Park View Horizon, said the developer had been cheating them time and again. She also questioned the quality of the project. "The operator added six stories in 2010 even though it had initially taken permission to build eleven-storied towers. As the foundation was designed to support only eleven stories, it was found to suffer physical damage," Sharma added.

He said the developer should immediately assure them that their investment is safe and help them to recover their belongings from their apartments. "As hundreds of families have been affected and billions of rupees is at risk, the government should take initiative for addressing our woes," he added.

Meanwhile, PVHDC has issued a five-point appeal to the developer and authorities concerned. Among others, they have urged the developer to arrange residence for all tenants and form a team including representatives from developers, tenants and government agencies to assess damages in the buildings.

The committee has also urged the developer to provide compensation to family members of the person who died when one of the walls of Park View Horizon collapsed due to the earthquake. It has also appealed to the government and the developer to assure locals of Dhapasi who fear that the high-rise buildings could collapse anytime.

The committee has also urged the government to do needful so that they get compensation from the developer.

Members of the committee also told Republica that the developer has insured only the apartments which are yet to be sold.
