Cement production in Nepal has been growing sharply over the past few years. The industry is among the country's most flourishing business sectors as the demand for cement is constantly rising. The Nepali cement industry is growing strong due to the increased demand post-earthquake. In addition, some major projects in hydropower and road network expansion and other construction initiatives taken by the government have been contributing to the growth.

There are two type of Cement in the market OPC and PPC.Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is the most common and popularly used cement in the world, but another option which is Portland Pozzolana Cement has also risen to prominence in recent times.

OPC is the acronym commonly used in reference to Portland Cement (or Ordinary Portland Cement, which explains the “O” in the acronym). It is the most common cement type used worldwide. OPC is the basic component used for concrete, mortars, stucco, and other common construction essentials that require cement in the mixture.Ordinary Portland Cement is the most prevalent because of the readily available raw materials in the area where it is produced. This is also why OPC is an ideal option for cement needs throughout the world today as the costs of producing it is very low without compromising quality.

Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) is a variation of OPC which includes a mixture of a pozzuolanic material which can increase the strength of the concrete and reduce the amount of OPC used.

Portland Slag Cement (PSC)
Portland Slag Cement (PSC) is a type of blended cement that is made by combining Portland cement clinker with granulated blast furnace slag. There is a mixture of 25-70% granulated slag, 3% gypsum, and the rest clinker in PSC. There are over 90% glass content in granulated slag, as well as silicates and aluminum-silicates of lime. In simple terms, Portland Slag Cement (PSC) is a blending of Portland cement and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS), which strengthens structures.


The brand and grade of cement, among other factors, affect the price of cement in Nepal.  Even while nearly all cement brands offer the same quantity of cement in a bag, prices can differ. While some cement production businesses exclusively make PPC cement, others make nearly every kind of cement, including PPC, OPC, PSC, and others.
