The horizon for young Nepalis is ever widening giving Generation Next the best of all choices.
On May 19 students of architecture got the opportunity to learn more about the building structure of another country at the Contemporary Norwegian Architecture exhibition that was held at the library hall of Pulchowk Engineering College. The exhibition, which was put up under the initiative of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was inaugurated by the Norwegian Ambassador Thor Gislesen.
The exhibition took off with a short speech by the campus chief Dr Durga Sangroula followed by Ambassador Gislesen.
"This exhibition is part of the bilateral programme between the students of Nepal and Norway. This exhibition brings in the challenges of modern architecture with 50 unique buildings that have travelled abroad and are now in Nepal. The exhibition has shown global interest encircling social, dramatic and economic fields," Gislesen said.
The structures were categorised under five themes form and function, symbol and identity, material and construction, contrast and proximity, and transformation.
The 50 models presented at the exhibition had been selected by a jury as the best examples of Norwegian architecture from 2000 to 2005.
Buildings such as New Corner Building, Public Arena, Ropeid Ferry Terminal, Pedestrian Bridge, Glaxo Smith Kline Innovation Centre, summerhouse et cetera displayed a fascinating variety of style and the overall transformation into unique structures of modern architecture.
The exhibition attracted many students of architecture, who showed keen interest in the detailing and the writing of these modern structures. With the display of a few models of the buildings and blueprints of the modern structures, the hall was echoing with discussions and talks related to the exhibition among students.
There was a also huge flow of other people interested in architecture who were engrossed in the in-depth detailing of each structure.
The exhibition is on till June 7.
