People of Balkumari, Lalitpur , have demanded that the local administration provide protection from the looming Westar Properties’ towers, which they say are on the brink of collapse.
They said the 14-storey buildings, severely damaged in the April 25 earthquake, pose a danger to the people living in the towers’ immediate vicinity.
The locals, led by Chairman of Balkumari Tol Surakshya Tatha Samrakshan Samiti Ganeshman Singh Karki, lodged a complaint at the District Administration Office on Sunday.
Among the delegates were former lawmaker Ramkrishna Chitrakar. The delegates complained that Westar Properties constructed the buildings in the middle of the neighbourhood in the face of protests by the locals. The locals claim that the construction of the high-rise towers was completed even before their maps had been approved by the concerned authorities.
The locals are living in constant fear as experts have warned that the buildings could topple over any time.
After listening to the complaints, Chief District Officer Yadav Prasad Koirala assured the local delegates that the government would investigate into the matter and take action if the developers were found guilty.
